BMW R 12 G/S Unveiled Globally: Check Features and Specifications

BMW Motorrad unveiled its latest scrambler bike, the BMW R 12 G/S, globally. With clear off-road improvements, this new model is an enduro-focused bike that takes its basic design and engine from the R 12 nineT roadster. The brand has already teased this bike on its global social media channels by showing its nameplate. Earlier, the bike was supposed to debut at EICMA 2024; however, the debut was delayed. Check out the full information here.

2025 BMW R 12 G/S: Engine

The R12 G/S shares the same air/oil-cooled boxer twin engine as its sibling models, the R12 cruiser-style R12 and the R12 nineT roadster. This is the well-known 1170cc DOHC engine, which produces 115 Nm at 6500 rpm and 107 bhp at 7000 rpm. Moreover, the gearbox is the 6-speed with shaft final drive, and an up/down quickshifter that is factory installed is an option.

Unlike the other R12 variants, the G/S has a single exhaust can on the left side, which is toned down. However, BMW has chosen not to duplicate the unique high-level silencer configuration of the original R80 G/S.

As far as design goes, the R 12 G/S comes with hand protection beside the cockpit covering. It has minimal bodywork and sits higher off the ground with a fully adjustable USD fork up front and a monoshock in the back.

These improvements, along with the Paralever swingarm, give the scrambler a more purposeful posture. In addition, compared to the R 1300 GS, its design is more similar to the previous HP2 Enduro.

As standard, the R 12 G/S has a 21-inch front wheel. Depending on the package selected, the rear wheel can be either the Standard or Enduro Package Pro option. The size of the rear wheels and the height of the seat are the primary distinctions between these two kits.

In addition to increasing the seat height from 860mm to 875mm, the Enduro Package Pro increases the rear wheel from 17-inch to 18-inch. The seat height may be further raised to 890mm with the optional Rallye seat.

In terms of features, the Enduro Package Pro includes a 20mm handlebar riser and off-road footpegs. In addition to the Rain, Road, and Enduro modes, there is the Enduro Pro riding mode. BMW provides a comprehensive suite of electronic features, including keyless ignition, engine braking control, cornering ABS, traction control, and LED lighting with the option of adaptive headlights.
